Peter and Sue Jacobson started Lake Country Builders in 1976. They love their business. Starting from a two person carpentry crew and a vision, they grew and refined their systems for over 4 decades to provide a full service Design / Build experience. Their resource rich team includes staff carpenters, a selection coordinator, project managers and a customer service team.
At Lake Country, their people are their most prized resource and they all share a passion for fine construction and great customer relations. Some have been with the company until retirement after 30 years. “Our employees say that it feels like family,” explained Peter Jacobson
Lake Country’s reputation was built on design / build remodeling and custom home building in the Metro Area. Their downtown Excelsior office puts them in the middle of one of Lake Minnetonka’s most exclusive building environments which fits them well. Their reputation spans the Twin Cities and beyond. They believe the client’s confidence and trust are as fundamental to a project as its foundation. “A great customer experience is essential. Clients who have built with us continue to return, sometimes having us build second homes for them .Our client base are professionals who want a comprehensive, well orchestrated experience, no matter what the project,” said Jacobson.
Influenced by client queries and recognizing opportunity, Lake Country was “lured up north” in 2002 and started a Brainerd division that has expanded to serve the Greater Minnesota Area. The Lake Country “design here, build there” philosophy has blossomed into a northwestern Wisconsin division where they have built lake homes and remodeled existing cabins.” Our map has grown. Wisconsin is a growth area for us and we have developed really good vendor and business relationships there” said Jacobson, adding “We will handcraft your vision wherever you play”.
Lake Country Builders was the first metro area builder to earn a Minnesota Green Star Gold Certified Home, which was a 2008 Parade of Homes highlight. They were also the first contractor in the state to earn certifications in both remodeling and new homes. Whenever possible, they focus and promote their efforts on sustainability, energy savings and providing healthy home.
In 2014, responding to a personal experience with aging parents, they added another arm of their company. “Stay at Home (SM) facilitates unassisted living for mature adults who want to maintain their lifestyle at home. We are empowering people to re-create their space and enjoy their stay at home,” said Jacobson. Both Peter and Sue Jacobson are CAPS (Certified Ageing in Place Specialists). The Jacobson’s son Patrick has worked in the business for 15 years and manages a Customer Care Home Maintenance (TM) division. The small projects and maintenance service was created in 2004 and has grown from servicing past clients to helping a larger portion of Twin Cities residents. A big part of Lake Country Builders future will be the result of Patrick’s voice and experience as he continues to handcraft the vision of Lake Country Builders.
